"Beyond Screens: From The Truman Show to Today’s Algorithms" is the title of the discussion event taking place on September 18 at 7:00 PM in the Rectorate Square of La Sapienza University in Rome. The discussion will be moderated by Gianluigi De Palo, General Director of Fondazione Oltre, and will feature actor Beppe Fiorello; Father Gabriele Vecchione, University Chaplain and founder of the San Filippo Neri “E poi?” community; and Vittoria Massi, a medical student.

This will be followed by a screening of the film The Truman Show, the story of a man who discovers—as an adult—that his entire life has been staged and broadcast live on television, orchestrated by a director who decides what he sees, what he feels, and even whom he loves.

The film will serve as a practical entry point into the evening’s theme: the discussion will move from Truman to how young people today experience their relationship with screens, media, and algorithms, and the importance of approaching these tools with a critical eye.

This approach aligns with the mission of Fondazione Oltre across all its projects: rather than passively accepting the reality presented to us, we must learn to question it, ensuring we remain the protagonists of our own choices rather than spectators guided by others.
